Silicon carbide is a synthetic mineral that is very sharp and commonly used for low-pressure applications such as paint prep and finishing. Aluminum oxide is a hard, blocky mineral with a high cut-rate and long life. While silicon carbide breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, it produces a finer finish. Hookit™ Backing for Easy Tool Attachment One great benefit of Scotch-Brite™ Hookit™ Clean and Finish Roll is that it includes a Hookit™ backing. Hookit™ abrasives work well in spaces where adhesive-backed discs may become contaminated by dust or dirt. Hookit™ abrasives conveniently attach to a hook-and-loop backup pads (sold separately), can be removed cleanly and easily, and can be re-used again and again for the extent of the abrasive life.
