The backup pad typically attaches to a tool like a random orbital sander (also sold separately).Silicon Carbide and Polyester BackingWe engineer 3M™ Hookit™ Microfinishing Film Disc 468L using micron-graded silicon carbide, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut and smooth finish. Silicon carbide is a mineral that is very sharp and commonly used for low-pressure applications, such as sanding and finishing during paint prep. While it breaks down faster than aluminum oxide, this mineral produces a brighter finish and offers greater tear-resistance than comparable paper products, making it ideal for high-production environments.
